The harvest of peas is one of the source of income for small farmers during the month of December and January. ₹200 - ₹ 350 is the present cost of peas per packets in local markets in UP. This year's harvest snatched every with the average harvest of 120-145 packets per acre, provides financial support to small farmers. Usually, if the cost remains around ₹20 per kg, the cost of packets reaches to ₹800- ₹1000. Since, at present the cost is around ₹4- ₹6 per kg of the best quality pea, farmers are not able to withdraw their investment in this crop.
While talking to many farmers in the local mandi of Hardoi. It is realized that this year's harvest has provided nothing. Manoj Kumar, a small farmer told that he has the land of 1 acre. He invested almost ₹20,000. The harvest was around 110 packets. Each packet was sold at the cost of ₹200. Like Manoj, every farmer in UP, facing the same problem.
The harvest of peas before the harvest of wheat is the main source of income for farmers in Northern India. Especially in the states of UP, MP & Western Bihar. This harvest in the months of December and January provides financial support to small farmers.
It's usually purchased in packets at local level at admirable cost. Price between the range of ₹ 700 - ₹ 1100 provides enough profit to small farmers, especially in Uttar Pradesh.
