The truth behind womens freedom

by. pallavi bhardwaj
First I wish a very happy International Women’s Day to all the women breathing at the moment on earth and may be outside it also. Though women have got numerous issues which are yet to be resolved but this article of mine seeks to address small strata of Indian society i.e. middle class women.
Since last month I have been reading Feminism as a subject in my undergraduate course. It talks about the emancipation of women but this concept doesn’t seem to fit into the Indian middle class society. For instance, women are free to move but within certain peripheries. Like in a time limit of, say, SIX A.M to SEVEN P.M with their parents, siblings, husband, friends, wearing clothes which are not much revealing or tempting with many more precautions and yet at a risk of their own. But there is no one who can tell women that who laid out these rules and what are they supposed to do if still some untoward incidents occur to them!
Hold on! It’s just the beginning of a deep dilemma of middle class women as they are divided into two parts in the society i.e. “Working Women” and “Non-Working Women”. According to Society Working Women must give their hundred percent not only at home but also at workplace. She is always made feel guilty for not having it all. On the other hand, those who are house makers are actually ‘non-workers’ in societal terms, so, a house-wife is supposed to make perfectly round-rotis, well-mannered children, and should be a good manager. Yet when she is introduced she is called just a “House Wife”.
Middle-class women are basically so called “SAPNO KI RANI” but in reality a perfect “NAUKRANI” who is supposed to be perfect in all areas. She should be sacrificing, beautiful, soft-spoken, shy, studious, hardworking, troubleshooter, sensitive and much more. Women are supposed to have all the above given qualities in them to be a perfect entity for society. Her sacrifices, beauty, softness, shyness, education, toil, sensitivity and many other qualities should be for the people around her and not for her own self. There is a special constitution made by society only for “women” which is to be followed by her till the last breath with an aim to get A+. Deep down the society is sick and is not able to answer the very basic questions raised by women as who made them their Godfather and how are they supposed to breathe when a noose is tightened round their neck. If anyone gets answer to these questions of mine then please contact me at pallavibhardwaj2013@gmail.com
Again I wish you all the so called day of emancipation and liberation i.e. “Women’s Day”.
